Young Women’s Cancer Support Group, “Girlfriends with Gratitude”
 Establishes Race Team for the Komen Race for the Cure®

 Mission Viejo, CA, September 23, 2008— Advanced Breast Care Specialists announces the formation of their Race Team, “Girlfriends with Gratitude,” for the 17th annual Komen Orange County Race for the Cure® to be held Sunday, September 28, 2008 in Newport Beach, CA.   “Girlfriends with Gratitude” is comprised of breast cancer survivors from the Young Women’s Support Group which meets monthly at the office of Dr. Lisa Curcio in Mission Viejo.    

Dr. Lisa Curcio, Medical Director of Advanced Breast Care Specialists, formed this support group for young women with breast cancer 2 years ago.  Having diagnosed her own breast cancer at the age of 37, she understood the need for a support group for younger women.  “Women under the age of 50 who are diagnosed with breast cancer have some concerns that post-menopausal women don’t have,” says Dr. Curcio.  “Issues such as preserving fertility and long term treatment planning are critical to a younger patient.  I’m so thrilled the Support Group has grown and I will be running with “Girlfriends with Gratitude,” continues Dr. Curcio.

One of Dr. Curcio’s patients understands about the devastating effect cancer can have on a family. Mindy Reinhardt, a Lake Forest resident, lost both of her parents and a brother to cancer. “Given my family history, a vital part of my treatment was staying active and connecting with other women,” says Mandy.  “I love helping others and I’m so thankful that I can participate in the Race.”

 Sharon Hilde, a two-year survivor in November and a Girlfriend with Gratitude agrees, “I will be at the Race for the Cure with thousands of others who are like me who have faced and walked through the walk we all had to do.”

“For years, I have been inspired by the thousands of women and their families that join together to support the Race for the Cure®”, says Candi Wuhrman, Facilitator of the Young Women’s Support Group.   “I’m honored to work with these amazing women as they heal physically, emotionally, and mentally from cancer, and move forward in positive ways.”
