Moms with Cancer Update

Moms with cancer is growing at a rapid pace. Moms and families from as far away as West Virginia have contacted the group for support. Moms with Cancer offers support for Moms and their families through diagnosis, treatment and recovery.  Recently, an Orange County Mom passed away from lung cancer and she had requested that in lieu of flowers donations be sent to support Moms with Cancer. Her friends and family have generously contributed in her honor and will be honoring her at our May 2, 2010 fundraiser, "In the Garden of the Butterflies" a social tea taking place at the Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo. Estela Riela, chairperson for the event, is currently seeking any volunteers who would like to be involved in this wonderful event by contacting her at 949-433-6773.

Dr. Curcio was featured on OC "The Mix" in October 2008 for
Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Dr. Lisa Curcio discussed advances in breast cancer treatment and genetic risk of breast cancer on The Mix program  hosted with Bridget Kelly and Leslie Leyton and taped at the Rancho Santa Margarita Cox Communications studio. (October 2008)

 “Advances in Breast Cancer Treatments” to colleagues.

  Dr. Lisa Curcio recently attended two major meetings on breast care.

• In April 2008, Dr. Curcio and Alice Daugherty, RN, MSN,CNP, attended the American Society of Breast Disease Annual Meeting held in Chicago, IL. (www.asbd.org) Both Dr. Curcio and Alice were recently accepted as members of this elite society. This is a multidisciplinary meeting tailored to physicians caring of breast patients.  From this meeting, much new information was brought back to our practice to optimize the care of our patients.

• On May 1^st through the 3^rd, Dr. Lisa Curcio  traveled to New York to attend the American Society of Breast Surgeons (www.breastsurgeons.org) meeting. This is the premier meeting for breast surgeons and provides an educational forum to learn new techniques and review the current scientific data about the care of breast patients. Dr. Curcio attended the oncoplastic course for the second time. This is a newer surgical technique to reconstruct the breast after breast conservation. To learn more about about oncoplastic surgery, click here.  Oncoplastic surgery is an innovative technique that allows the breast surgeon, in most cases, to reconstruct the breast after the cancer surgery. This will help to minimize deformity of the breast after breast cancer surgeries.  At Advanced Breast Care Specialists, we are committed to bring the most recent advances to the front line of cancer care in South Orange County. Dr. Curcio, states, “this meeting always refuels my excitement about breast care. The changes from year to year are incredible. Each year, we are becoming more sophisticated in the care of the breast cancer patient.”
