Advanced Breast Care Specialists Summer 2011 E-Newsletter

My staff and I want to wish you a healthy and happy summer. We are grateful to have the opportunity to take care of your breast care medical needs.

During the past few weeks there have been some exciting new developments in the area of breast cancer prevention. Perhaps you have heard the news that the armotase inhibitor exemestane (Aromasin) has now been shown to play a role in the prevention of breast cancer. This encouraging study, released by the American Society of Clinical Oncology, details the results from the MAP.3 (Mammary Prevention Trial-3) study. This study is the first randomized trial to assess an aromatase inhibitor as a tool for breast cancer prevention in healthy women. The promising results document that after a median follow-up of three years, women given exemestane were 65% less likely to develop invasive breast cancer than those on placebo, with no serious toxic side-effects and minimal impact on health-related quality of life. Obviously longer term follow-up is needed, but the preliminary data opens the door for a whole new class of drugs to be used in prevention.

If you would like to learn more about this trial and how it may be helpful to you or a loved one, please schedule an appointment, email me or join the conversation on our Facebook Page. Like Us!

Sincerely,
Lisa D. Curcio, M.D.

New Faces but Same Great Service!

Advanced Breast Care Specialists staff and patients wish Rayleen Waters, Practice Manager, a very happy retirement! For the past 5 years Rayleen has worked to ensure the smooth operations of our practice, as well as to address our patient’s needs. Rayleen is looking forward to her new role as grandmother.

I’m delighted to introduce Julie Quinley our new Practice Manager. Julie has worked in medical offices for more than 30 years and brings a wealth of experience. In addition to her office management responsibilities, Julie is responsible for our Patient Financial Services Department. Given the complexities of today’s health care insurance environment, we have moved our billing and collections in-house. If you have any questions, please call Julie at 949.770.0797, ext.3.

Also, joining our team is Brent Laflamme. We are pleased to add a dedicated Surgical Scheduler to our practice to better coordinate the surgical issues in both pre-operative and post-operative timeframe for our patients undergoing surgery. Brent is responsible for coordination with our affiliated hospital surgical departments and answering any questions you may have regarding your scheduled procedure. You can reach Brent at 949.770.0797, ext. 4.
