“Life after Breast Cancer”

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM)) is an annual educational and fundraising campaign supported by major breast cancer organizations every October. For the campaign this year,
I will be speaking to groups on an important topic that is personal to me – survivorship.

As one of the millions of breast cancer survivors in the U.S, more emphasis and resources are being allocated to understanding and meeting the needs of cancer survivors and their families.  At Advanced Breast Care Specialists, we offer support services for our patients, including genetic counseling, lymphedema therapy, nutritional counseling, a support group, and other services.

This year I’m honored to be invited by the Susan G. Komen Orange County affiliate to lead an expert panel, “A Time to Focus on Prevention, Survivorship and Wellness,” on Thursday, October 13, 2011, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.  If you would like to attend, RSVP to Saddleback Memorial at (949) 452-7255.

Sincerely,
Lisa D. Curcio, M.D.

New Treatment Modality for Breast Cancer Patients
Breast Brachytherapy….One Day Radiation Treatment

On August 2011, in Newport Beach, Dr. Lisa Curcio performed the first breast seed implantation surgery using the Artemend™Breast Microseed Treatment System in the United States. This new treatment for breast cancer has been used successfully in Canada and now is in clinical trial testing in the U.S.

Breast brachytherapy uses radioactive seeds- very tiny implants- that are placed in the breast tissue after a lumpectomy to deliver a precise dose of radiation to the affected breast. With breast brachytherapy, select patients only need to undergo surgical procedure to receive the recommended radiation dosage, versus the 10 to 40  treatments used with other modalities.

If you would like more information or to schedule an appointment to determine if you are a candidate for the clinical trial being conducted by CORE Oncology and Dr's. Curcio and Doggett, please call our office at 949.770.0797.
